Today in the United States alone, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, around 30 million women are now affected by the problem of hair loss. Although it is common in older women, especially when they reach menopause, it is also being seen in a large numbers of younger women as well. In this article, we will take a look at some of the causes of hair loss in women today.

There are many different reasons for women to start looking there hair prematurely. The same factors can affect women the same as they do men, these being age, genetics, and also problems with hormone levels. Along with these reasons there are also other factors that can cause hair loss in women.

1. Some women begin to lose their hair because they are suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome which is a very common hormonal problem that many women suffer from today. In some cases, the only way a doctor is able to diagnose that they are suffering from this particular health condition is because the woman has begun to lose hair.

2. Another reason why some women may be losing hair is because they are undergoing some form of treatment because they are suffering from an autoimmune disorder. In cases like this, the hair loss can be quite dramatic in some cases it comes out in large clumps or patches.

3. There is a medical condition that may cause temporary hair loss in women, this being Telogen Effluvium. This type of hair loss may occur from changes in a woman's hormone levels due to a traumatic event in the women's life. Some examples of this may include Child birth, crash diets, surgery, or any other traumatic event that has happened to them.

It is important to note that before you undergo any type of treatment, so that you do not cause the problem to become worse, a doctor should be consulted to find the underlying cause of the hair loss. It is vital to find the primary cause of the hair loss, as such a doctor may need to carry out a few tests to determine this.

Above we have gone over but a few of the causes of hair loss in women. These hair loss causes will not happen to every woman, but if you do suffer from hair loss you should try and find out the cause so that it can be treated or remedied. On the other hand you should not worry if you loss some hair as that is a normal part of the hair growth process and part of the aging. In the case of excessive hair loss you should seek help in your fight against hair loss.
